What counts as an error
A number, label, date, series ID, source or chart that does not match the agency data it cites. Also a line that states a cause without an agency quote behind it.
What we do
We re-pull the series from the agency, check the claim and reply. If it is wrong, we fix it and log it below with the date, what was wrong, what it says now, and the source we checked against.
How fixes show up
- Site chart pages: replaced, with a dated note on the page and a link to this log.
- Social posts: a follow-up post or comment that points to this log. We don't delete the original without leaving a note.
- Email: a line at the top of the next send.
Agency revisions are not errors
Agencies revise data and update their forecasts. When a revision changes a number we published, we note it with the new release date. It goes in this log only if we got the number wrong.
No silent edits
If a published number changes, there is a log line.
